Catching up …

Oh my. So much has happened in the last nine months, it would take me nine months to condense it all. Suffice to say, all good! On the news front, happy to share that my manuscript, Coming Home (a collection of essays), is finally in the hands of the publisher at Pottersfield Press. The opening chapter focuses on how I learned to paddle a canoe at age six, 75 years ago. This shaped my life … thanks to John Prout, a guide at Birchdale.

Birchdale is still operating, but not as a hunting and fishing lodge. Do take a moment to check it out here. Heather White and I co-host a Writer’s Retreat there each summer. Just celebrated our tenth year!

Someone recently asked what my book is about. Without giving it much thought, I said, “It’s about coming of age at 80.”

And, in a way, that sums it up. Hope to see it on book shelves in the fall of 2026.

Now, I’m focusing on creating writing workshops for the winter of 2026. Stay tuned!

Meanwhile, the top photo was taken on a 4-day wilderness trip on the West Saint Mary’s River in NS a few moons ago. My paddle partner in the bow for that trip was Marcy Wallace. We had a wickedly wonderful wind in our backs that morning! Below: a sunrise paddle on First Carrying Lake at Birchdale.
