Day 5/6 … the 10K challenge

2aHold on; it’s not what you think. This has nothing to do with running. It’s all about discovering as much as I can within a 10-kilometer radius of my home. Some people might think I’m daft. After all, I live in the woods on a river in a community that’s so small that it doesn’t even qualify as a village. Every few kilometres, there’s another cluster of homes and another small community.  So what’s there to discover besides trees and more trees … and maybe a river or lake here and there?

Well, I hauled out some old topographical maps and drew a circle around where I live. As the crow flies, it encompasses several rural communities such as Canaan, Quinan, Raynardton (where the Strawberry Festival was) and Belleville (where the snake man lives). Within this prescribed region are seven churches, three community halls, two schools, three fire halls, two BnB’s, a library, and a corner general store with a licence to sell liquor and an airfield!

But there’s more, and this is where it gets interesting. However, the problem with the past two days is that I’ve spent  so much time discovering places and chatting with characters along the way within this 10K radius, that I haven’t had time to write or cull my photos! And in a few minutes, I hit the road again heading for McNutt’s Island for two days.

So, this is all to say the write ups and photos will be “forthcoming.” Enjoy the break from my ramblings.  Meanwhile, you may be wondering why I posted a pic of a flower. This is no ordinary thing. And it’s part of Day 6 story. Any idea what kind of flower this is?

Aha Mae Belle! Yes, perhaps a rose and a tulip fell in love and this is what happened. There are hundreds of these on ONE TREE. A hundred foot TREE! I’ll show you when you come back to NS. Now I’m gonna get a cuppa and settle into reading your last two posts. We need 40 hours days this month!

I’m totally inspired by your July Project adventures Sandra! Your story about visiting the graveyard reminded me of how much I love wandering around in old cemetaries & how long it’s been since I’ve done that. Think I’m going to pack up my sketchbook and head to the one down the road tomorrow. Looking forward to the next installment!

    Is this a magnolia bloom?

      Hello Susan,

No, it’s not a Magnolia bloom. It’s something I’ve never seen before. Going to write about it shortly in Day 6 post. Saw Vicky in Shelburne today and she tell me she’s going to visit and look at some of the blogs. Thank’s a bunch for sharing with her!
